Tips For Choosing Flowers

When choosing flowers it’s important to consider the personality of the person receiving them and the occasion. We have designed our range of flowers based on certain popular colour combinations and styles to make it easier to for you to choose the perfect gift.

Flowers are regarded as a fashionable extension of someone's personality and their environment. So, if a Mum has a pink bedroom and always likes to have fresh flowers, choosing soft pretty flowers would be an obvious colour choice.

Flowers create a homely and enliven atmosphere to a room and should not be regarded as a luxury but an essential aspect of everyday living - bringing nature into your home! Therefore we encourage you to send beautiful fresh flowers regularly to that special person in your life on a regular basis.

Choosing Flowers by Colour

White, Greens and Creams

Always look sleek and stylish

These are amongst our most popular colour combinations. If the person receiving the flowers is very stylish it's a good idea to keep the flower style very simple, you really cant go wrong. This combination will works with most colour schemes and looks great in both a home and office environment. Our white and green flowers are popular for this reason. Personally, I adore white and green as an option, it always feels fresh, natural and just right. If you don't know the person this is a safe choice.

White flowers are also a romantic classic, for example white roses or a pretty white garden posy.

Pinks, Lilacs, Lemons, Creams

Pastel flowers, soft and feminine make a great as a personal gift. They are a great choice for someone close such as a Mum, Sister Grandma or close girl friend. Pretty pastel colours exude a soft, dreamy, romantic, mood therefore make a great alternative to red roses as a gift of love. A person who likes soft, classical, old fashioned, feminine flowers would like pretty pastel flowers.

Reds and Oranges

For a business gift, bold dark colours work very well. They have a formal presence and again the simplicity of tones of colour will feel a lot more professional than bright cherry colours. Bold colours also look striking with many interior finishes, such as dark woods and white crisp rooms.

Bright Happy Flowers

Yellows, Purples and Oranges combined

These make a great gift to cheer someone up or to say thank you! A bright happy bunch of flowers delivered to someone's work, is a popular choice if your looking to surprise some one with a cheerful gesture. A bouquet of sunflowers is also a great choice for a cheerful gift idea. A person who enjoys bright vibrant colours or who needs cheering up would like to receive a bouquet of bright happy flowers.

Red Flowers

The colour of love

If you are buying flowers for romantic reasons, red is always a good choice. Red roses or red garden styled posies are a great choice to declare your love or serious interest in someone special.

Red, such a deep passionate colour truly really sends the message of love, especially a bouquet of red roses. A red bouquet of flowers is also a great choice for someone with a vibrant personality or who just loves the colour red.

Choosing Flowers For Someone or an Occasion

Choosing Flowers for Men

If you are having trouble choosing flowers we can style a bouquet of flowers especially for a man, just choose florist choice, and leave it up to us. We understand what flowers men do and don't like. We have a great selection of contemporary, masculine styled flowers. Flowers in a container or potted plants are a popular choice for men.

Flowers for a New Born Baby

Choosing flowers for a newborn baby is quite easy, it’s usually pretty pink for girls and powder blue for boys. If you’re not sure of the babies gender, leave it to us we will create a contemporary bouquet, combining whites, creams, lemons or something similar.

Flowers for an Older Person or Grandparent

We recommend not selecting anything too modern. In our experience, classic hand tied flowers are always a popular choice. Often choosing metal wraps or something stark and modern isn’t as appreciated as an old fashioned garden style.

Flowers for Someone in Hospital

Selecting flowers already displayed in a container is the most convenient and popular choice. We also recommended not sending flowers with too much of a perfume, as being in small confined place it could be quite over powering. We have a good selection of container ideas under our Floral Arrangements and Get Well Flowers category. You will find flowers in containers, either glass vases, terracotta pots, polystone or ceramic pots. You really want the flowers to arrive without the need for someone to place them in a vase. They may receive a lot of flowers and may not have enough vases on hand.

Bereavement Flowers

When choosing bereavement flowers we recommended getting flowers displayed in a container pot. We have a good selection of container ideas under our Floral Arrangements and Bereavement Flowers and Bereavement Gift category. You will find flowers in containers, either glass vases, terracotta pots, polystone or ceramic pots. You really want the flowers to arrive without the need for someone to place them in a vase. They may receive a lot of flowers and may not have enough vases on hand.

Flowers sent to a funeral service can also be arranged into a flat oasis container, if you have any special requirements always let us know, we will ensure your flowers are just right for that special person and their family. There is a special instruction box on the product page for any special requirements such as colour that you may have. In our experience, soft pastel coloured flowers work very well, lemon, cream, blue, lilacs flowers are an appropriate choice.

Customised (Bespoke) Roses

You can't go past roses. Our roses are spectacular and deserve special mention. Wildpoppies have a great selection of roses. Choose from a range of colours from vibrant to pastels and everything in between. Choose which grade you would like, the quantity and how you want them presented.

Customised Orders

Remember - you can make a request to have something special created. You may see something you like on our site but think you would to modify it or substitute some aspect of it, such as, "… but with blue and yellow flowers including sunflowers", or "Tropical feel with long stems ..." What ever your request we will try to do our best to fulfill this, and will confirm straight away if this is possible.
